In Southeast Asia’s folk medicine Gua sha is a widespread cure. This detoxifying method is particularly well suited for musculoskeletal problems and colds.

I treat the painful area of the body with special oils previous to the Gua sha treatment. By repeated scraping with a rounded object on my patient’s body (a porcelain spoon or objects made of horn), I will increase the blood flow in skin and muscles. The superficial blood vessels will begin to open and the surrounding skin to redden. Sometimes little bruises and bleeding can occur which can take a few days until the discoloration disappears.
